All tall. We are all tall. All small. We are all small. U TALL. We are all the University of Texas at Arlington Luminescence Lab.

I asked for title suggestions and no one was willing.
As we make our way into another hot Arlington summer, it's time for a quick update on the goings on in the lab. More friendly faces have been added to our photo board. If you'd like to see your mug on the board, reach out! We're always looking for new collaborations.

One seismic shift since the last post is that the NSF EAR/IF program has funded a full-time lab technician. This means more face-to-face time with lab visitors, faster sample through-put and more student mentorship. Fernanda Rodrigues was our first manager and Rahul Kaushal is the current one. Fernanda came to us by way of São Paulo, teaching us about provenance analysis and Bananinha. We were sad when she returned to Brazil, but got to meet up with her last summer for the New World Luminescence Dating Workshop.

On that note, the Brazil NWLDW was an amazing experience. We got to float the Amazon, swim with pink dolphins, and even go searching for caimans on a night-time boat ride. Many eyes in the dark. First time sleeping on a boat. 10/10 would do again.

Rahul Kaushal joined as lab manager last fall. Rahul brings a rich academic background (IIT-> PRL -> Colorado School of Mines -> DRI -> UTALL) that combines luminescence with TCN and quantitative geomorphology. Here's Rahul helping Emma Rogers (Dartmouth) with sample prep.

We've also been getting our steps in. Cindy Lou dragged us up the Beartooth Mountains to sample some Neoglacial deposits.

Ayush and Diana and I went to the San Bernardino Mountains to grow our inventory of thermochronology samples from the southern San Andreas fault. And got surprised by snow!

This year GSA was just down the road in San Antonio, so the gang road-tripped down.

In other big news, Ayush and Karissa both published their first lead-author papers, in Quaternary Research! Both are in the publications tab.

Karissa even did a little write-up in the Caldera Chronicles. Go read it here!
