Single-grain box is live!

We're now ready to measure the single grain age distribution of sand samples. This is helpful for getting burial ages in settings where only some of the grains were fully reset by sunlight exposure. Inside this single-grain attachment (rectangular black box that sits just above the round sample chamber) are green and infrared laser beams that can be positioned with two encoder motors. The back-and-forth whirring of those motors is the constant soundtrack of many luminescence labs.

Oooohhh boy both kinds of lasers! I'm sure that it will start to sound like the Monty Python soundtrack to "bring out your dead" in there soon. But seriously.....Congrats on your lab. I expect a tour if I am in town.
